President's Message
March, 2010

Dear Members:

As our Chapter’s Director of Community Service, Beth Teer has been involved in a number of worthy causes here in Memphis. Beth wants to make sure that our members are aware of: (1) the March of Dimes Bankers Night to be held Friday, April 23rd from 2:00- 8:00 p.m. at the Shelby Farms Visitor Center and (2) The Memphis Walk for Babies to be held April 24th at Shelby Farms. Please note that  Volunteer counters are needed for both of these events. Please visit the Web Site: http://www.marchofdimes.com for more information on how you can help, make a donation or participate in the walk.

This is Beth’s 3rd year in coordinating the counters for these events. The March of Dimes champions the needs of moms and babies in our community and across the country. The money raised through the March for Babies will support lifesaving research, community services, education and advocacy that will help babies get a healthy start in life.

Last month’s Tech Luncheon featured Chris Kelly, Executive Director of the Barret School of Banking and Joshua Jacobs, of Sawyers & Jacobs LLC. They both provided great information and we appreciated their time in coming out to speak to our group.

Our meeting on March 18th will feature Michael Adams, CPA, and attorney with the law firm of Williams, McDaniel, Wolfe & Womack. Michael will discuss the key issues that people need to take into consideration in order to ensure that they are on the right track in regards to their estate planning and he will also discuss the pending legislative changes that will have a significant impact in this area. Michael has practiced law since 1998 specializing in the areas of estate planning and business succession planning. If you  are questioning yourself as to whether you or a family member have taken adequate measures in regards to estate planning or just have questions about a will, this will be an hour of your time well spent.

Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., Michael will speak from 12-noon until 1:05 p.m. providing 1.25 hour of CPE. The cost to attend this event will be $ 22.00 for IMA members and $ 25 for non-members. Please visit our website at www.imamemphis.org  for further details and make your reservation as soon as possible as seating will be limited.

Our next Board meeting will be on March 24th,  7:30 a.m., at the Crescent Club and we look forward to seeing you at the March 18th Tech Luncheon featuring Michael Adams. Hope that everyone is doing well.

Sincerely,

Jeff Graham, CMA, CPA
