For
information about our chapter's CMA review
course, see CMA
Review Course.
The
Certified Management Accountant Program was established by IMA in
response to the
needs of business and at the request of many in
the academic community.
There
are three basic objectives of the CMA program:
-
To
establish management accounting as a recognized profession;
-
To
foster higher educational standards in the field of management
accounting;
-
To
establish an objective measure of an individual's knowledge
and competence in
the field of management accounting.
The
Certified Management Accountant designation will be awarded to
candidates who have
passed a four-part examination held in
major cities through the United States over a 2 day period
and
have met specific educational and related professional experience
requirements.
To
qualify for the examination, candidates must first apply to the
Institute of Certified Management
Accountants which administers
the CMA program. Credentials are evaluated, and upon acceptance
to
the Institute, candidates may then file an examination application
specifying the parts to be taken
and the examination location
selected. The Institute is also responsible for the maintenance of
CMA
standards through the continued professional development of
CMAs.
New
applications to sit for the December and June examinations are due
to the ICMA by
September 1 and March 1 respectively.
Continuing candidates must file their examination
registrations by
October 1 and April 1 respectively.
